Lions and Tigers and Bears....Oh My

We've been having a lot of rain here lately coupled with cooler temperatures and not a lot of sunshine. Josh was going a little stir crazy Saturday morning so we thought a trip to the Museum of Nature might be in order. Josh LOVES animals so I figured he would have a great time at the museum...and I was right! He especially loved the mammal exhibits and would run from diorama to diorama signing 'more' 'more'. It was so cute. We'll definitely have to go back again sometime.

Last week Josh had an appointment with Dr. Ponesse at the Ottawa Children's Treatment Centre (OCTC). Dr. Ponesse is a child development specialist and has been referring Josh to different depts. based on his needs (PT, OT, Speech and so on). No new referrals were made after this appointment :) Josh is in the 'monitoring' stage meaning his development is more or less on track and we just need to keep an eye on him to make sure that progress continues.

According to Dr. Ponesse Josh has made huge gains in the areas of gross motor development and social behaviour development and is in the 15-17 month range for comprehension. I'm honestly a little puzzled by that last one. I always thought Josh's comprehension was at least age appropriate if not a little advanced. Oh well, no worries! Sometimes it's better not to focus so much on the results of these assessment tests. Josh is doing well and that's the main thing!

Josh doesn't have to go back to see Dr. Ponesse until March of next year. Since PT, OT and Speech are already in place and no other issues have surfaced there's really no need to go any sooner.

One last update concerning the Hanen Parent Program that I was supposed to be starting later this month. It looks like the program is a no-go :( I received a call from the OCTC receptionist to book appointment for Josh to see his speech therapist. He wasn't supposed to see her while I was in the program so I'm guessing the program was cancelled for lack of interest. That's really too bad - I think he would have really benefited from it. I've heard really good things about the program.

I'm going to leave you with a picture of Joshua eating his breakfast (cheerios in milk) with a spoon. This is the first time that Josh has ever used a spoon for something other than smearing food on his table or flinging food on the floor. It was a happy moment for me. Now if we can only get him to use a plate......

Elijah will sometimes sort of eat properly with a spoon. He just cannot keep his plates/bowls right side up! If we leave him to eat on his own, everything is in his lap or on the floor. :)

I'm so happy that your little man is doing so well developmentally. That is wonderful! I always hated when people told us where E stood according to his abilities. What is the point of knowing that? I say, assess what they are/are not able to do and get to work.

Anyway, thanks for the cute pics. He is one cute little boy!! xo

What a happy little guy, and he looks so great.
Don't worry about where they are saying he is developmentally, Depending on the person taking it you could get several different answers.
They told ud last summer that Hunter was deaf!!! and after tubes were put in, he is now age appropiate for speech...duh!!
taks care
