The Easter Bunny came to our place a day early because Robb had to work on Sunday bright and early and we wanted Robb to be around for the Easter Bunny surprise. It didn't make any difference to Josh; he's still a bit young to really understand what's going on, but he was quite impressed with his goodies and loved all the new animals he received. We even did a little Easter egg hunt for him which he quite enjoyed, although he didn't really want to surrender his found eggs to his basket. He wanted to hold them all. The whole thing was pretty cute to watch.
Last Thursday morning Josh had an appointment with his occupational therapist just to check in and see how he's doing. Josh is quite the character at these sessions because he absolutely refuses to participate in anything his therapist wants him to try. He's not crying or upset, he's pleasant and smiling but chooses to avoid anything his OT is interested in. Case in point, his OT offered him a cheerio to eat so she could assess his chewing to make sure there were no issues with oral motor control. Clearly Josh wanted the cheerio but would not take it from her. Finally I offered him one which he quickly snatched up and then scooted off and hid behind me to eat it so his OT couldn't see him. What a little monkey!
Anyway, based on my reports of what Josh and cannot do Josh is on more or less on track in terms of fine motor development and we don't have to go back to see his OT until the end of August at which time she'll do another assessment to see how he's doing.
On Thursday afternoon we took Josh to get a much needed haircut. His hair was starting to get pretty long and was starting to drive me crazy. The thing is getting his haircut is anything but easy. He absolutely hates it and does all in his power to avoid the scissors including screaming and yelling and crying. The only way we can get it done is if he sits on my lap and I do my best to hold him still and comfort him. But by the end of it we are both covered in hair and exhausted.
Even though Josh never really liked getting his haircut he would at least sit in the chair and tolerate it. His intense dislike for haircuts started after the hairdresser cut the top off his ear last November. I suppose that would be enough for anyone to develop a dislike for haircuts but I didn't think he could remember something that happened that long ago. Perhaps I'm wrong. Poor guy.
Once again I hope everyone had a Happy Easter and thanks for taking the time to check in!
