Spring Is In The Air

Autumn has always been my favourite season but I sure do love when the first signs of spring arrive after a long, snowy winter. This year March has been lovely with mild temperatures, lots of sunshine and very little snow. Ottawa typically receives about 40cm of snow in the month of March. So far we have had only 4cm with no snow in the long range forecast.

It has been great getting out for walks with Josh, enjoying this fabulous weather and breathing in those first whiffs of spring air. You know, the smell of wet grass, old rotted leaves and every once in a while you pass a house that you know owns a dog as the wind hits you just right and you suddenly become aware that they have a backyard in desperate need of spring cleaning. All of you familiar with long, snowy winters know what I'm talking about here. If this weather keeps up we will have green grass and budding flowers in no time. Hopefully Mother Nature doesn't have any cruel tricks up her sleeves.

Josh has had a good week. He continues to make progress with his speech and this weeks breakthrough is the emergence of some consonant sounds. This is something that he has struggled with but I have recently heard him say 'ca' for car as well as 'mo' for more and he's using the 'd' sound more frequently. He has also started saying 'ah da' (all done) and 'ah ga' (all gone) which is awesome! He does the sign and at the same time says the phrase. So he really is coming along :)

I attended the orientation session for the Hanen Parent Program for parents of children with a language delay. The course sounds amazing and I think it will give me a whole lot of tools to help Josh with his speech. Unfortunately only three parents showed up to the meeting and they need a minimum of six to run the program. If they don't get enough people to sign up, the program will be cancelled. It only runs twice a year so I would have to wait until the fall to take the course. Hopefully this isn't the case but we will wait and see what happens. I should find out in the next couple of weeks and I will be sure to keep you posted.

I had a hard time deciding what picture to post but figured since this post is about spring why not share a couple of pics of Josh on one of our spring walks. Notice the beautiful brown grass in the background. Yes, with the start of spring comes many shades of brown to our landscape. Oh well, the green grass will be here in no time. Thanks for checking in!

We just did Hanon, just finished it last week. Absolutely amazing program. The changes we saw in Chris are absolutely amazing. He's signing and using words, truly communicating before. He went from zero to hero. It's a great program, well worth the time committement and effort.

Hope that it's a go for you guys, Josh will surely benefit!

What great strides in language development! I just love it when all things start coming together. Way to go, Josh!

We are seeing the brownness of almost spring here, too. I love it because it means winter is ALMOST done. Finally!

Take care. Have a great weekend. xo
