Sorry for the lack of posts lately. I haven't had much computer time as some days Josh has been refusing to go down for a nap. Thankfully today was not one of those days.
So lets see if I can get you all caught up on what has been going on. Josh's cold has finally released its hold and the cough seems to be on its last legs as well. Hopefully we can have a nice long break before any other illnesses decide to grace us with their presence.
Last Tuesday Josh had an appointment with his Neurologist at CHEO and I have to say it was an excellent appointment. Well probably not from Josh's perspective -- he cried through most of it, particularly when the nurse was trying to get his height and weight. He was not in the mood to cooperate. Anyway, he still weighs 24 lbs. He hasn't gained any weight since February but I'm not overly concerned right now as he has been sick the last little while and his appetite was definitely decreased. His appetite seems to have returned now so he should be able to pack on some more weight.
Josh's neurologist is very pleased/amazed with how well Josh is doing and how far he has come. He confided that when he first saw Josh's MRI images many many months ago he didn't expect a good prognosis. He expected significant developmental delays due to the large amount of brain tissue that's damaged and he said the fact that he's is walking without any signs of muscle weakness is amazing. He went on to say that obviously we don't yet know how he is going to do in school but he is already doing so well. Josh is showing them just how amazing the human brain is in its ability to compensate and adapt when an injury occurs. Clearly Josh is a very special boy and I am so very proud of him.
The best news I got from the neurologist came at the end of the appointment. First he said that we don't have to go back for a whole year (yay!) and then he said, when reminding me of what to do in the event that Josh has a seizure, that Josh is 'low-risk' for the seizures to return. There is still a chance that they could return but it's a low chance. This was the best news by far and it was certainly a relief to hear.
There's not much else happening around here. That was our big news for the week. I hope all the mom's out there had a lovely day on Sunday and were able to find some time to rest, relax and enjoy their kids.
Thanks for checking in!
