Surgery Went Well

I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to post this yesterday but I'm glad to report that Josh's surgery went as expected with no complications. The surgery was delayed about an hour but Josh did beautifully...a lot better than I could have ever expected. He played in the day surgery waiting area, did some crafts and watched some tv. There were some tears and some pleading to go home but for the most part he held it together.

They gave him a pre-op sedative about a half hour before they took him to the OR and let me tell you....it worked! He was so calm and relaxed. There were no tears; no screaming. Just an easy going kid enjoying the ride to the OR. I was able to accompany Josh in to the OR and I was able to give him a kiss on the cheek as he fell asleep. I really couldn't have asked for a more stress-free experience.

And better yet, they were able to get the echo and ECG done while Josh was in the recovery room. They kept him asleep a little longer so they could get it done so that delayed things a bit too but it was certainly well worth the delay. I can now rest assured that the echo is done and I know that they were able to get the images and angles they need to see how his heart is doing. I guess I'll find out on Tuesday the results of the echo when we go to for Josh's cardiology appointment.

I finally got to go see Josh in recovery around 2:30pm. He was still pretty groggy but was already making it known that he was not impressed with the IV in his hand or the blood pressure cuff on his arm.

We were shuttled back over to the daycare surgery unit around 2:45pm and were given the okay to go home at 4:00pm. As the nurse was getting ready to take out the IV so we could go home she asked Josh, 'Do you want to go home now?' To which he replied, 'No, go park!' Yeah I guess he was feeling better.

It was a long day but overall a fairly positive experience and though I can't say that Josh likes the hospital or doctors anymore than before, I don't think he likes them any less either.

Thanks for checking in!
